Normsweb.com - New Graphical
Layout: |
||||||
|
After spending weeks trying to make my site as compatible as possible across all browsers I have designed this all new graphical layout. This new layout now displays correctly in MOST browsers when viewed at or above a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. A couple of older versions of "Opera" browser possibly have issues, but since the latest version of Opera displays it correctly, I'm not going to worry about that. I have tried to stick to my principle of "less bull, more data" while redesigning the website, that is, that being able to access the data on this site quickly and easily is more important than fancy bells and whistles. If you want flash animations etc then go elsewhere, but if you just want good reliable easy access to the "good stuff" then your in the right place! I still have some work to do on the header (the top box with the logo and links in) to make it look nicer, but that will come in time. If you experience problems viewing my site, please contact me and let me know, so I may put it right. UPDATE 06-01-10: While trying to find a suitable background for my site, I have re-visited an old tiled effect that I used a while ago. I have re-coloured it to make the grey boxes stand out and am reasonably happy with it. Any comments or ideas to improve the background styling are welcomed. please click the contact me link in the header box. UPDATE 05-01-10: Experimenting with different backgrounds to try and find one that suits the site and that I like... That's not easy, coz it needs to be fast and efficient to load as well. "double gradiated fade" looks ok but not quite to my liking... watch this space! UPDATE 06-12-09: While running some diagnostics on my site to improve its speed I found that my highly polished shiny new logo was slowing the site down drastically. I have now had to compromise the quality of the image slightly (Awww!) to improve the over all speed of the site. Logo now loads about 4x faster, so I suppose its worth the trade off. :-( UPDATE 14-11-09: Due to some untidy coding, some pages aren't displaying correctly and my site is running slowly. you sometimes need to do a refresh to get it to display correctly. This is entirely down to my laziness and the fact that I used dreamweaver to create the site in wysiwyg mode and didn't bother to check the code manually. This issue is now being sorted and the full site should be back into full speed within a few days! UPDATE 01-11-09: Header redesign complete. Along with that I've re-styled the whole site again. Normsweb is no longer in the dark - I have brought Normsweb.com into the light by getting rid of the black backgrounds on all the pages. I feel that this style looks more professional and the site now incorporates"text rollover" links, that go red when mouseover and get a linethrough when they have been visited, which is cool! |

| Normsweb.com - Compatibility issues: | ||||||
| It has recently been brought to my attention that my website is not displaying correctly in many browsers. I am now aware of this issue and have started a recode/redesign of the entire site. This will take me some time so please be patient. I will get it done asap. UPDATE 01-11-09: While working on the header, I have come up with a new design for the whole site. This new design looks a lot more professional and I'll be rolling it out over the whole site soon. UPDATE 22-08-09: New graphical web design finished and uploaded - Yay! Hopefully now no more display issues in different browsers...(I'm just waiting for the first e-mail!!! lol.) UPDATE 04-08-09: I've finally come up with a new graphical design that I'm happy with and that displays correctly on 99.9% of all browsers when viewed at or above 1024 x 768 (yay!). I will be rolling it out across the whole site soon UPDATE 19-05-09: GRRRR! I've just checked the compatibility of my website across loads of browsers on this excellent site: browsershots.org I have now confirmed compatibility with 98% of browsers, but although perfectly viewable, it is not displaying as I want it to (and as it does in IE7). Why must there be so many damn browsers, all with different conventions, and different ways of doing things? Why can't there be an agreed format that all browsers adhere to? That would certainly make my life (and the lives of many coders worldwide) a heck of a lot easier. But no, they all have to be just slightly different - just enough to make my life harder. I've trimmed all the crap out of my site, and now it just uses basic HTML coding so you would think that it would display the same in all browsers - but no, it doesn't. So now I have to totally review my site code again, and I'll probably end up having to re-design the whole freakin' site again. If it sounds like I'm hacked off, that's because I am. Watch this space... UPDATE 18-05-09: I have just viewed my site from my mobile phone (Nokia N91) and have found that although it does display, there are a few things that I need to modify to make it fully compatible (doh!). I am now aware of this and am working to sort it asap UPDATE 30-04-09: Re-code and re-resign is now complete! yay! normsweb.com should now be 100% compatible with all browsers when viewed at or above a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. If you have problems viewing my site, please Contact Me UPDATE 28-04-09: I have now completed the re-design of the banner and homepage. Now, the banner fits in properly when viewed at resolutions at or above 1024 x 768. This new design will be taking over all of my site soon and all the pages will adopt it, however, it may take some time to roll out the re-design over the whole site and some pages may look odd until it's complete. UPDATE 24-04-09: After the fastest re-code in normsweb history, my site is now much more user friendly and should now be compatible with most browsers. I still have some issues to resolve and there may be something's that don't work. If you find a non working thing, please contact me and let me know so it can be put right. I'm already working on the oversized menu banner issue - it displays fine on my wide screen monitor, but overshoots on standard 4:3 monitors. This will be resolved asap. |

| Unsolicited Mail From Normsweb: | ||||||
If you have received junk e-mail with or without an infected attachment, that has supposedly come from me, I can only apologize. It has been brought to my attention that some people have been receiving junk mail again that has been sent by my staff here at normsweb.com Believe it or not I myself have been sent junk mail from fake addresses's relating to my site. Some examples are: service@normsweb, support@normsweb, staff@normsweb technical@normsweb and even webmaster@normsweb.com was used in one I received. Most e-mails were signed "the normsweb.com team" I run normsweb.com on my own, from my flat here in Cornwall. I don't have any team to rely on and I definitely can't afford to hire any staff! So I was astounded and furious when I received an e-mail from my "team" saying that if I did not click on the link immediately, my access to normsweb.com would be suspended! Normsweb.com is a stand alone website and is not affiliated with any other Normsweb site or any other site. I have never and will never knowingly send unsolicited (junk) e-mails. I believe that any site that has to rely on tactics like that to raise their hit-count should be blacklisted. Please forward any suspect e-mails that you may have received from my site to me and I will endeavor to find out from where it originated. This has happened before. At that time, NETSKY virus was believed to be the infection |
